They were first discovered by Tudor King Henry VIII who declared them so delicious the recipe was kept secret for 200 years until it was leaked in the Mid-18th century by Palace cook to John Billet, a master baker in nearby Richmond.
I am glad that tried the delectable Original 500 year old Maids of Honour tarts at Newens Tea House, the art-deco inspired venue. It is slightly on a sweet side for me but I like the overall savory taste and aroma of the freshly baked tart.
That day we had the High Tea For Two that comes with maids of honour tarts, freshly baked scones (plain & fruits), clotted cream and preserves, assorted sandwiches, macaroons, pastries, fruit tarts and a pot of tea. The high tea for two is priced at RM100 available from 230pm to 530pm. They also has the options Oriental Afternoon Tea set that comes with the varieties of Chinese dim sum.
